This is a major religious site often overlooked by those studying relugion in Taiwan. It is the headquarters of a recognized religion, Maitreya Great Tao 彌勒大道. The complex is also a major tourist site for those visiting Hsinchu. finally it sits in the middle of an ecological protected area.

Maitreya Great Tao (MGT) was officially founded in 2000, following the death of the first leader, Wang Haode 王好德. Wang died ơn Christmas Day in 1999 while ơn a preaching trip to Thailand. The group Wang led was known as The Way of Heaven天道. Since the death of the Yiguandao 一貫道 cô-founder Yue Huimei in 1975 Wang claimed be the legitimate holder of the Heavenly Mandate 天命. He thus claimed authority over all Yiguandao branches.

With the establishment of Maitreya Great Tao thể group refocused efforts in new directions. Building ơn its roots in Yiguandao orthodoxy, it added concerns for ecological issues. New books written by Wang 汪 and Yen 顏，the two new Seniors h前人, focused on adapted tom22st-century life. Tge group ceased to perform spirit writing divination (開沙kaisha).
